Siemens Braking Resistors

Siemens has an extensive drives offering under the brand name “SINAMICS”. They consider braking resistors to be “DC link components”, and have different methods of installing and using them depending on your drive. Currently Siemens does not manufacture its resistors, and relies on external partners to provide them.

The SINAMICS V20 has variable support for dynamic braking depending on your selected frame size. Frame sizes FSD and FSE have an internal brake chopper, allowing the resistor to be connected directly. Frame sizes FSAA to FSC require an additional Braking Module, which the resistor will be connected to.

The SINAMICS G130 requires a braking unit that comprises of two components to make use of dynamic braking.

For frame sizes HX, you can use up to 2 braking modules (with 1 resistor each), and for frame size JX up 3 modules (with 1 resistor each) can be used.

Please refer to the G130 Braking Resistor Table to select the appropriate resistor based on your braking module and the standard Siemens recommendations.

The SINAMICS G150 and S150 require a braking unit that comprises of two components to make use of dynamic braking.

These are typically selected using option numbers L61 and L62 when ordering the drive. Typically braking modules can be connected in parallel to achieve higher braking power.
